Ageing Brain research has always been at the heart of geriatricians, particularly those who sub-specialise in cognition and memory disorders. As our population ages rapidly, we will see more older persons with conditions such as dementia and delirium, which affect the brain’s functions and abilities beyond what may be expected from normal ageing. Accompanying this trend, the significance of caregiver stress and support for caregivers also demand further attention.
Our close partnerships with the Department of Geriatric Medicine, the Centre for Geriatric Medicine and our community partners have made it possible to conduct rigorous research pertinent to our improvement of clinical care. From preventive strategies to combat cognitive decline, development of novel models of care to insights and literature on caregiver stress, IGA is committed to our continuous endeavour in ageing brain research for the enhancement of person-centred care.

ADL+
ADL+ (Digital Tool Kit for Cognitive Assessment and Intervention) aims to study the efficacy and feasibility of the digital toolkit, to prevent or delay cognitive decline in older adults.
Delirium
Delirium is an acute neuropsychiatric syndrome and a common complication in hospitalised older adults, with poor adverse outcomes reported. Delirium Prognostication study seeks to identify a clinical biomarker (S100B) phenotype with conventional clinical indices to accurately predict recovery trajectory in older adults diagnosed with delirium.
Caregiving
Explores the lived experience of Asian family caregivers of persons with dementia. Understanding the caregiver “voice” from the Asian perspective and deepen insights to the gestalt of the caregiver experience.
